I have always been an advocate about reading websites, listening to
podcasts and filtering through forums to expand my development skills.
I always heard about communities getting together and holding either
lunch-inns or after hour events to not only network but broaden there
abilities and skill set. When I discovered the ALT.NET community I was
immediately interested in attending as this community offers a relaxed
environment and as much knowledge as you are able to soak in during a
Not only will attending one of these session be a great way to meet
fellow developers, it is a great way to get advice on projects you may
currently be working and how to extend past milestones. I have noticed
in my time as a developer there are times when you are posting or
researching a problem that you may have encountered you have a hard
time finding a solution cause the problem itself can be interrupted
and represented many different ways. This makes it nice to be able to
discuss the issue in person rather than behind a keyboard and mouse,
to clear any grey areas.
These meetings are also great for learning new technology every week
they focus on a specific topic to have a talk on with a presentation.
This will help in the future of taking on new projects being able to
recommend certain new options and venues to use to create a better and
more optimized application. It is great to have a community like this
as I can see as a developer it can improve you in many ways not only
as the code you write but also as an all around employee. By getting
up and giving a presentation will help you in forming better public
speaking skills and preparation for future demos.
